Château Suduiraut "Castelnau de Suduiraut" Sauternes, 2016 (375ml)

France, (Bordeaux AOC)
90% Semillon, 10% Sauvignon Blanc
14.5%

From the Grand Cru Sauternes estate Chateau Suduiraut, this second label wine delivers the style and pedigree of Suduiraut at an amazing value. Castelnau de Suduiraut is a wine with a distinctive character for which the groundwork is prepared far in advance, even down to the choice of specific plots to give it its own unique identity.

TASTING NOTES: Aged 16 to 18 months is 50% in new French oak barrels. Castelnau de Suduiraut 2016 has a beautiful golden yellow color. The nose is subtle and reveals initial aromas of tropical fruit before leading into notes of gingerbread and candied citrus fruit, with a spicy, lightly toasted bouquet from barrel ageing. The attack is smooth, the palate powerful with great freshness. The bouquet from barrel ageing is again apparent, and notes of Botrytis. The long finish reveals candied fruit and spices.

FOOD PAIRINGS: The French would immediately say either foie gras or Roquefort - two savory pairings for Sauternes. There’s also a history in the region of pairing Sauternes with poultry. Poultry of all kinds marries well with sweet wines; one of the most famous dishes of the region is roast chicken liberally basted with Sauternes, and then served with a bottle of the same wine.

Kiona Vineyards Ice Wine Chenin Blanc 2022

Washington
100% Chenin Blanc
9%

Ice Wine is one of the world's most elusive and delicious elixirs. For decades we've produced this Red Mountain version with Chenin Blanc, a grape that showcases well-balanced, crisp acidity and intense tropical fruit characteristic that dances on the tongue. A sensory tour de force that is sure to impress.

Dessert wines pair best with foods that are not intrinsically sweet. Hard/sharp
cheese, roasted nuts, and fruit-based desserts are simply incredible with a
tiddly-wink of quality dessert wine.

Kiona Vineyards Late Harvest Riesling, 2022

Washington, (Columbia Valley AVA)
86.4% Riesling, 13.6% Gewürztraminer
10.3%

Picked far into the growing season, this Late Harvest Riesling had plenty of time to develop exceptional flavor complexity and high sugar levels. The wine is cold-fermented to preserve fresh-fruit flavors and accentuate the site’s vibrant acidity while capturing a small amount of frizzante in every bottle.

TASTING NOTES: A rather sweet Riesling reminiscent of a German wine. Nice fruit flavors of apples, peach and berries that is crisp and light. A smooth wine that has a clear golden color and not too acidic.

FOOD PAIRINGS: My first thought is to go for pungent cheeses, especially blue cheese. And if you have a sweet tooth, pair them with dessert—especially crème brûlée or flan, fig, apricot or peach desserts, cheesecake or apple pie.

Meyer Family California Zinfandel Port, NV (500ml)

California, (Mendocino AVA)
100% Zinfandel
18%

This is the 10th bottling of Meyer Family Port. This Port displays aromes of baked fruit and cooking spice, along with warm notes of alembic Zinfandel brandy. Although rich and round on the palate, an earlier harvest retains sufficient acid to balance its lush flavors of sweet cassis and brandied cherries. An average of five-years in neutral oak has created a long, concentrated finish allowing this Port to pair beautifully with artisanal blue cheese, intense chocolate desserts, fresh fruit, or a good cigar.

TASTING NOTES: Old-vine Zinfandel Port displays aromas of baked fruit and cooking spice, along with warm notes of alembic Zinfandel brandy. Although rich and round on the palate. An earlier harvest retains sufficient acid to balance its lush flavors of sweet cassis and brandied cherries.

FOOD PAIRINGS: Zinfandel Port is certainly a dessert wine, and its best pairings run the course of rich molten chocolate cake, sweet fruit-based desserts like cherry pie and vanilla ice cream, and crunchy, nutty dishes like pecan pie or a chocolate walnut crumble.
