Arnot-Roberts Rose of Touriga National, 2020

California, ( Mokelumne River AVA)
75% Touriga Nacional, 9% Tinta Cao, 9%Trincadeira, 7% Grenache
13.0%

Arnot-Roberts began making Rosé from Touriga Nacional in 2010. They were compelled by the grape’s deep color, brilliant acidity and aromatic complexity even at low sugar content. Touriga is a late-ripening Portuguese variety that needs some heat to mature, and they have sought out vineyards suited to this hearty variety.

TASTING NOTES: Aroma is crisp golden apple and white flower. Palate shows great acidity, very light soft grip, ripe strawberries, and zippy minerality.

FOOD PAIRINGS:  A very dry bottle of Rose whose elegant fruit and mineral finish makes any food pairing just that more dynamic.

Bastide de la Ciselette Bandol Rose, 2022

France, (Bandol AOC)
60% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, 10% Cinsault
13.5%

La Bastide de la Ciselette, seated on a hill in the heart of the Bandol appellation, dominates its vineyard. It is with the Vintage 2010 that the adventure began and that Robert De Salvo, winemaker harvesting, realized his dream of child. La Bastide de la Ciselette operates 15 hectares with an essential production of Bandol and a smaller volume of Vin de Pays du Var. The Bandol Rosé represents the majority production. The Red Bandol, produced in small quantities, is the result of a careful selection of parcels and a refined choice of grapes to offer a complex, elegant, fruity and silky wine.

TASTING NOTES: This rosé gives pride of place to the typical grape of the AOC Bandol: the Mourvèdre. Finesse, roundness, salinity will carry you throughout the tasting. A plot of red fruit, white-fleshed fruits and passion fruit will seduce you; all the terroir of Bandol concentrated in your glass.

Bedrock "Ode To Lulu" Old Vine Rose, 2020

California, (Sonoma AVA)
 76% Mourvèdre, 16% Syrah, and 8% Grenache
12.8%

Bedrock Vineyard is one of the most historically and qualitatively gilded plots of land in Sonoma Valley. Taking up 152 acres of the heart of Sonoma Valley, the vineyard occupies a large section of one of the best growing climates for grapes on earth.

TASTING NOTES: This Rhone-style rosé is elegant with pitch-perfect balance, yet it’s edgy with tangy, high-toned fruit. It has notes of raspberry and strawberry with a hint of white pepper. It’s light on its feet and striking.

FOOD PAIRINGS: Pairs beautifully with light fare — fish (fatty, crustaceans, battered and fried) as well as all manner of vegetables (grilled, roasted, pureed, pickled). In fact Côtes du Rhône reds have that fleshy berry flavor, plus carefully dialed-in acidity and restrained tannins, making them highly pairable with a variety of cooking styles.

Bonny Doon Vineyard "Vin Gris De Cigare Rosé," 2022

California, (Central Coast AVA)
50% Cinsault, 43% Grenache, 5% Clairette Blanche, 2% Mourvedre
13.5%

While Bonny Doon Vineyard began with the (in retrospect) foolish attempt to replicate Burgundy in California, Randall Grahm realized early on that he would have far more success creating more distinctive and original wines working with Rhône varieties in the Central Coast of California. The key learning here (achieved somewhat accidentally but fortuitously) was that in a warm, Mediterranean climate, it is usually blended wines that are most successful.

TASTING NOTES: In appearance, almost Cate Blanchettish in its pale elegance, a beautiful subtle salmon color (the wine, not Cate). On the nose, subtle suggestions of rose hips, linden flower, black currant as well as a slightly toastiness (methinks perhaps due to the extended bâtonnage and lees contact). On the palate, wonderful bracing natural acidity, good weight and comforting viscosity. Some discreet floral and fruity suggestions, (mostly ribes with background black-cherry notes.)

FOOD PAIRINGS: This well-balanced rosé pairs with all your favorites, from seafood to summer salads, grilled veggies, and richer fare like fried chicken or soft cheeses.

Broc Cellars Love Rose Can 2022

California
66% Valdiguié, 18% Carignan, 7% Zinfandel, 5% Grenache Noir, 4% Barbera
11%

This vintage is about abundance: From the expansion of grape varieties featured to the flavors and textures up for exploration in the glass. The 2022 is mostly Valdiguié and Carignan with Zinfandel, Grenache Noir and Barbera – several new varieties to the Love Rosé blend.

We foot stomped the grapes, which remained on the skins and stems for up to 24 hours. All varieties, excluding the Grenache, were gently pressed into stainless steel tank to naturally ferment. The Grenache underwent carbonic maceration before it was pressed, fermented and aged in concrete tank. Sulphur was not added during fermentation and aging. Once fermented to dry, the wine aged on the lees for four months. All were blended at bottling with a small amount of sulphur addition. Each variety brings a unique quality to the wine - acidity from the Valdiguié, spice from the Zinfandel, texture from the Carignan, herbal notes from the Grenache Noir and salinity from the Barbera.

Mamete Prevostini Rosato Monrose Rose 2020

Italy

100% Nebbiolo

13.0%

The dynamo that is Mamete Prevostini is an absolute maestro when it comes to Nebbiolo. He is not interested in producing big fat wines, oaky crowd-pleasers, or wines made with intentional cause and effect for a journalist and a bigger score. Mamete’s focus is purity and flavor; the essence of Nebbiolo with an emphasis on what the special Valtellina soils give to the vines. Unlike the Nebbiolo of Piemonte, the Valtellina grapes grow at a higher altitude during a shorter growing season with cooler days and nights. The wines, with their crystalline fresh nature are every bit as intense as their Piedmont cousins, offering a greater wingspan of aromas and a lightness on their feet the Piedmont brethren would be hard pressed to duplicate. Tasters will recognize quickly these qualities and differences in each of the Prevostini wines.

Marabelle Pinot Grigio, 2020

Italy, (Terre di Chieti IGT)
100% Pinot Grigio
13.0%
* Biodynamic

On the high, rugged slopes of the Majella National Park in Abruzzo, Italy you’ll find Marabelle, a dedicated biodynamic winery making wine in the IGT Terre di Chieti. The high elevation and closeness of the Adriatic Sea creates the all-desirable wide diurnal shift, important for retaining acidity and freshness. The soils are limestone dominate, the vines average age is 40 years, grapes are harvested by hand and the fermentation is spontaneous.

TASTING NOTES: The Marabelle Pinot Grigio 2020 is pink in color but white in style, if that makes sense. The youthful, shy aromas hint at oranges, lemons, strawberries, and salt and the palate loudly confirms them. As mentioned before, the concentration is appealing and adds an unexpected weight with a healthy amount of acidity. Thinking of a single word to describe this wine isn’t hard; attractive. And the value is off the chart, hard work went into making this wine so you best show up and drink this down.

The fruit was 100% whole bunch pressed and settled for 2-3 days before being racked into a variety of different fermentation vessels including a puncheon, a stainless-steel tank, a sandstone amphora and a couple of concrete tanks. These were all inoculated and fermentation proceeded slowly through the end of our late harvest and into the beginning of winter. As fermentations finished in December all the wines were racked into a large stainless tank in preparation for fining and filtration. This wine goes through almost no malolactic fermentation so it is sterile filtered.
