Bonny Doon Vineyard "Le Cigare Blanc" White Blend, 2023

California, (Central Coast AVA)
73% Vermentino, 23% Grenache Blanc, 4% Clairette Blanche
13.5%

With this vintage we’ve gone a little heavier on the Vermentino bit and the results are spectacular:  There is the delicate suggestion of white flowers and of course the quality that Vermentino brings, which the French call balsamique (or resinous).  But what really stands out is the absolutely intense pear-like fragrance (and of course) the wine’s exemplary length and persistence.

TASTING NOTES: Pineapple, mango and lime. Delicious and refreshing.

FOOD PAIRINGS: This is a wine that you definitely want to serve with a rich beurre blanc, though a lobster risotto would also serve quite nicely.

Bonny Doon Vineyard Central Coast Picpoul, 2023

California, (Central Coast AVA)
90% Picpoul, 10% Grenache Blanc
11.0%

"The redoubtable Beeswax Vineyard in the Arroyo Seco appellation of Monterey County has the very singular and coincidental habit of producing white grapes expressing the unique scent of...well, beeswax. Along with beeswax, one apprehends the rather discreet scent of white flowers and perhaps pineapple. But while the scent of Picpoul is subtle, one is forcefully struck by the wine's bracing acidity and its unique savoriness (who's you-mami?). A soupcon of Grenache Blancs adds a discreet measure of weight and texture; further, there is a discernible quality of brininess that makes this wine and aboslutely perfect match for all manner of crustacean and molluscan nutriment." - Randall Grahm (Winemaker/Founder)

TASTING NOTES: With this vintage we’ve gone a little heavier on the Vermentino bit and the results are spectacular:  There is the delicate suggestion of white flowers and of course the quality that Vermentino brings, which the French call balsamique (or resinous).  But what really stands out is the absolutely intense pear-like fragrance (and of course) the wine’s exemplary length and persistence.

FOOD PAIRINGS: This wine is just calling out for fresh shellfish or a smooth, meaty white fish like sea bass or halibut. Play to the creamy texture of the wine and consider béchamel or beurre blanc sauces and then highlight the subtlety of the mellow fruits by utilizing vibrant green herbs. Of course if you want to get “funky,” add freshly-grated aged parmesan and play up that “stank.”

26% Picpoul, 22% Clairette, 22% Orange Muscat, 15% Marsanne, 10% Roussanne, 5% Chardonnay.
11%
* Natural Wine, Organic Grapes

This is one of the more interesting and complex Love Whites yet. It’s evolved over the years from a Rhône blend of Marsanne and Roussanne and this is the first year we’ve added Orange Muscat to the mix. California is one of the few places Orange Muscat is grown and it is often made in a sweeter style wine. For us, we love the beautiful aromatics and charming texture it brings to the wine. Picpoul from Windmill Vineyard is more substantially featured this year, which brings a new brightness to the blend that makes it hard to put down the glass.

TASTING NOTES: Sour apple and citrus zest up front, Bright and salty - then lots of minerals - finished with hits of honey on the palate.

The goal was to launch production of Albariño wines to meet the growing demand from the region.

Austria, (Niederösterreich DAC)
100% Grüner Veltliner
13.0%

This wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation, as do all the wines. It is the only wine in the line-up that fully ferments in stainless steel where it spends one year on its fine lees. It is a crisp, fresh, aperitif-style Grüner that is salty and easy to drink.

FOOD PAIRINGS: Grüner Veltliner is crisp and a perfect palate cleanser for richly flavored foods. While Grüner wines pair with classic Austrian dishes like sautéed kidneys, its newfound glory is with Asian spices.
