Alain Voge "Cotes du Rhone Peyrouses," 2021

France, (Côtes du Rhône AOC)
100% Syrah
14%
* Certified Organic

From the winemaker: "With the purpose of ensuring very high standards to maintain superb quality for our Cornas wines, for our winemaking we handle separately grapes from our youngest vines (less than 10 years old) or those that come from terroirs which are trickier in difficult years."

TASTING NOTES: Strikes a tasty balance between fruit and savory earthiness, with sweet cherry, violet and fresh plum draped in meaty, gamy undertones, white pepper and a salty lick of mineral. Nicely built, though supple and friendly, this has real character and charm.

FOOD PAIRINGS: You could easily pair this alongside dishes like beef stew, braised or grilled meats, grilled vegetables, Mediterranean fare, curries, and beloved weeknight fare like burgers and tacos.

Quite floral with cassis and blueberry aromas developing in the glass. The palate is sweet on the entry with noticeable new oak at the moment, though that prudent 20% is totally in sync with the fruit. This is very sleek, silky to the touch with a slight graininess developing on the finish.

Château Magnan-Figeac Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, 2019

France, (Saint-Émilion AOC)
60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot

From The Winemaker: "The good maturity of our grapes gives Magnan-Figeac intense aromas of red fruits. This comes from sandy-clay soils, located in one piece on an old terrace, facing due south. This very draining soil, accompanied by its microclimate, one of the warmest and sunniest in the Bordeaux region, is ideal for bringing our grapes to perfect maturity with a slight water stress which increases their concentration."

TASTING NOTES: Medium-dense ruby to purple color. Expressive nose of black fruits with spices, toast and a hint of alcohol. Round mouth on fruits with a lot of sweetness. Elegant finish.

FOOD PAIRINGS: Magnan-Figeac goes very well with today's cuisine such as a gourmet hamburger, a homemade quiche, a vegetable gratin or a simple plate of cold meats and cheeses.

David Bruce Petite Syrah, 2022

California, (Santa Cruz Mountains AVA)
100% Petite Sirah
14.5%

David Bruce Winery has earned an international reputation throughout more than four decades for its dedication to producing the greatest Pinot Noir in the world. The winery was bonded in 1964, and in 2024 celebrated their 60th Anniversary. Their wines are produced from varietals grown on their 45-acre Estate Vineyard located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The winery has been in the forefront to develop methods that have changed the face of winemaking in California and will continue to do so.

TASTING NOTES:  These grapes come from several vineyards in Paso Robles and southern Monterey. The resulting components display notable differences, some exuding bright, spice-tinged fruit while others are jammy, earthy and dense. The blend in many ways exceeds the sum of these parts, offering blackberry, blueberry and white pepper aromas, with a supple and balanced feel coming from our gentle handling of the fruit. Limiting the influence of new oak allows the fruit to shine through, making this wine versatile with foods, and ready to drink now.

FOOD PAIRINGS: Roasted Pork, BBQ beef, burgers, Chicken in mole sauce, aged cheeses, sautéed mushroom, eggplant, black bean, caramelized onion, stuffed peppers, and currants.

Disruption Red Columbia Valley 2019

Columbia Valley, Washington
60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Malbec
13.5%

From Disruption:
VINEYARDS: The Cabernet Sauvignon is grown on sandy loam and caliche soils in the Wahluke Slope Vineyard in Wahluke Slope AVA -- a cooler site known for its ability to refine the dusty, rugged, fruit profile that can often be found in Washington reds. The Malbec comes from the Denhoed Vineyard in Yakima Valley AVA. Both sites are over 1100ft in elevation and were planted between 1975 and 1978. Two thousand eighteen is one of the best vintages for Washington State in recent memory. It began with a warm spring, then a hot summer followed by a perfectly cool, but not cold, fall that allowed ideal conditions to pick at leisure.

ART: The label is an image of a series of columns supporting the I-5 interstate at the underpass of 6th Avenue and James Street in Seattle by artist Nathan Watkins with Urban Artworks. Watkins moved to Seattle in 2013 to study graphic design at the First Hill-adjacent Seattle University. Since graduating in 2017, the self-described workaholic has been a full-time freelance graphic designer and illustrator. In this installation "Sunlight over First Hill" the pillars he painted under the highway overpass provide an artistic 'gateway' from the more dense and urban areas in downtown Seattle to the more suburban area of First Hill. His work is focused on fluid and natural elements and is illustrative of his wide span of talents. Urban Artworks brings the talents of artists like Nathan from around the globe together with underserved youth groups to create these exceptional pieces. We proudly donate $1.00 per case to Urban Artworks.

Rhone Valley, France
80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre, 5% Cinsault
15.5%
Sustainably farmed

A worthy comparison between the Vacqueyras and Cuvée Romaine can be made at Domaine la Garrigue. Whereas the Romaine trades on a fruitier, more easy-going structure, the Vacqueyras is altogether different. Seeing an additional 6 months in tank, it possesses a notable meaty quality with firmer tannins and a seriously dense core of black fruit and iron. Should you find yourself with a fairly large piece of beef or lamb on your hands, you’d be hard-pressed for a more suitable assistant at the table than this Vacqueyras. For the 2019 vintage, Virginie Combe renamed this cuvée Albert & Camille after her Bernard family ancestors who founded Domaine la Garrigue in the middle of the 19th century.

The nose is dense and brooding, yet opulent, with its compote of dark, ripe plums and blackberry and attractive whiffs of liquorice, violets, cocoa and mint. The black fruit and perfume of the nose follow through onto a rich, savory palate with flavors of dark cherry, red currant, black olives and cured meat. Fine-grained, svelte tannins are in perfect balance with the lemony acidity, lending complexity to the mid-palate. The wine is full-bodied with a rich, smooth mouthfeel. The finish is charry and long, with hints of maraschino cherry, pimento olives, and sweet tobacco.

Syrah, Merlot, Grenache, and Viognier

Sustainably Farmed

A wine that has evolved and changed over the years, this is a co-ferment of Syrah, Merlot, Grenache and Viognier in 2019. It's a lovely wine, more black fruited than in some vintages but still bright, with a little touch of red sherbet in the finish. The vines here are thirty years old and the seriousness of the material is very evident but ultimately this is very approachable and delicious now.

This early release, low-alcohol Cabernet shows little overt new oak influence. The aromas boast notes of Satsuma orange, plum, cherry and cigar box, with reductive pencil eraser accents initially. There's plenty of intensity and purity to the flavors. Give it a short decant and pair it with grilled flank steak to see it shine.

Darioush Cabernet Sauvignon "Caravan" 2019

Napa Valley, California
76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot
15.8%

TASTING NOTES
Drawing inspiration from a refined Left-Bank Bordeaux blend, 2019 Caravan commands attention with a core of mouthwatering raspberry and black plum fruit while baking spices of cinnamon and nutmeg swirl on the palate. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the way with its plush, velvety texture while Merlot and Cabernet Franc add savory top notes of bay leaf, hawthorn, and sandalwood. A flourish of rich, round fruits sweep across the midpalate, then culminate in an aromatic finish accentuated by dark chocolate reminiscent of a fine dusting of cocoa powder.

VINIFICATION
With meticulous attention to detail, Caravan is hand-harvested, clusters are hand-sorted twice before and after de-stemming. The grapes were cold soaked for 4 days then fermented in small closed topped tanks, with gentle pump-overs for optimal color extraction and tannin management. The wine was aged for 20 months, in a combination of 70% new French and European oak barrels. The wine was minimally handled through bottling.

Gran Passione is a rich, deeply-colored blend of Merlot (60%) and Corvina grown in select vineyards in Italy’s Veneto region, the area around Venice. The grapes are harvested in the beginning of October at a maturation that ensures profound ripeness, an advanced phenolic profile, and good potential alcohol. The late maturation contributes characteristic notes of ripe fruits like plums and raisins. Subsequent oak aging develops depth and gives rise to pleasing notes of spice and vanilla.

Jordanov Vranec 2021

Macedonia
100% Vranec
14.5%

From the producer of our highly successful Macedon series, Minco Jordanov, comes this remarkable lineup of stolid, everyday values. Like his mid-tier Pinot Noir, these Old World offerings overdeliver every single year. The reason? A true patriot, Mister Jordanov is committed to putting his country of North Macedonia on the map. He has kept his quality level exceedingly high and his pricing modest until such a day arrives. Dry farmed in Tikveš, one of Europe’s most arid zones, these wines hail from the same latitudinal corridor as Tuscany, Bordeaux, and Napa (41 degrees north) with an average vine age of 35 years. A mix of continental and Mediterranean climates provides for long, hot summers, near-constant winds, and less than 12 inches of rainfall per year. Cool clay soils, known locally as rendzina, help provide acidic backbones for the wines and keep the overall style taut and fresh.
Indigenous to North Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, Vranec is a thick-skinned grape with high tannins and medium-high acidity. The word itself translates as ‘Black Stallion’ owing to its forceful character and rich coloring. Here, Jordanov tames the wild beast, with low yields and 35-year old vines rounding out all the edges. Their lip-smacking rendition of this East European classic is farmed “high and dry”, in rich clay soils that support its vibrancy and overall bone structure.
