Badia a Coltibuono is a historic former monastery in Gaiole in Chianti, owned by the Stucchi Prinetti family since 1846. The estate embraced organic agriculture beginning in 1985—well before official regulations—and achieved EU certification in 2000. They farm over 70 ha of hillside vineyards using traditional massal selection of native vines and hand-tended viticulture. Gravity-driven cellar processes, spontaneous fermentation, and aging in large neutral oak casks preserve varietal clarity and terroir expression.
TASTING NOTES: Bright ruby in color, the nose unveils marasca cherry, violet and iris florals, tobacco, black pepper, and wild herb spice. On the palate it is medium-bodied, structured with crunchy, powdery tannins, fresh acidity, and a minerally, lingering finish. Elegant and well-balanced with framed red fruit and floral complexity.
FOOD PAIRINGS: Pairs excellently with grilled or roasted red meats (especially lamb and pork,) tomato-based pasta dishes, aged Pecorino, bean stews, and rustic Tuscan fare.
