Cabernet Sauvignon is best known for making suave and courtly wines in Napa and Bordeaux, the best of which are renowned for their class and longevity. However, this red—the only wine we import made from 100% Cabernet—comes not from the left bank of Bordeaux but from Pic Saint-Loup in the Languedoc. Accordingly, it produces a very different bottle of wine, a country quaffer that is so lithe, pure, and unadorned you’ll have finished the bottle before even considering such matters as complexity, ageability, or anything else serious.

Château Fontanès is helmed by winemaker Cyriaque Rozier, who crafts his own wines alongside projects like Château La Roque. Les Traverses de Fontanès is made from old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon planted on limestone–clay soils of the Pic Saint‑Loup foothills. The wine is naturally fermented in concrete, then aged 6–12 months in stainless steel to preserve freshness and varietal clarity.

TASTING NOTES: Ruby‑red in color with expressive aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, cherry, thyme, and a subtle herbal lift. On the palate it’s full-bodied, with plush dark fruit, light spice, chalky minerality, and firm but integrated tannins—offering a smooth, mouth‑watering finish. Ideal for those seeking bold flavors with drinkability.

FOOD PAIRINGS: Complements grilled red meats, herb-accented dishes, charcuterie, tomato-based fare, and rustic Mediterranean cuisine.
