Tommaso Bussola's 2019 Ca' del Laito Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso is crafted using the traditional Ripasso method, where Valpolicella wine is re-fermented on the dried grape skins (pomace) from Amarone production. This process imparts additional depth and complexity to the wine. The vineyards are situated in the hilly areas of Valpolicella, benefiting from a mix of limestone and clay soils that contribute minerality and structure to the wine. 

 

TASTING NOTES: This full-bodied red offers a deep ruby hue with garnet reflections. The nose is intense and complex, featuring ripe aromas of black cherry, dried plum, and fig, layered with hints of raisin from the Ripasso process. Secondary notes of leather, dried herbs, and tobacco mingle with nuances of sweet spices like clove and cinnamon. On the palate, it showcases flavors of dark cherry, blackberry, and dried fruits, with a rich undercurrent of mocha, dark chocolate, and spice from oak aging. The wine has a velvety texture, well-integrated tannins, and a fresh acidity that balances the richness.
