Spain, (Valdeorras DO)
100% Mencía
13.5%
* Organically Farmed
Winemaker Alberto Orte produces "A Portela" from a single vineyard planted between 1976 and 1990, situated at elevations ranging from 500 to 700 meters. The soil composition includes clay, granite, and slate, contributing to the wine's mineral-driven character. The region's Atlantic-influenced climate, with an average temperature of 64.4°F from April to October and annual rainfall of 32 inches, provides a longer ripening period, resulting in bright wines with great aromatic expression.
TASTING NOTES: Fragrant crushed-rose and lighter cherry aromas lead to a fluid, plush palate with fine, yet powerful tannins. Dark stone and spice notes add complexity, culminating in a detailed finish.
FOOD PAIRINGS: Pairs well with herb-roasted chicken, pork loin, sautéed mushrooms, lamb chops, or salmon.
